Mumo Education and Orphange Centre ist der Name einer kleinen Schule Im Mathare-Slum in Nairobi,Kenia. Christopher Ngombalu, der Leiter der Schule hat den Namen "Mumo" von seinem Großvater erhalten. Mumo heißt auf deutsch Gnade. Sein Großvater wollte, dass er Gnade unter die Menschen bringt, deshalb hat er seine Schule danach benannt. Christopher setzt sich für die Kinder mit großem Engagement ein und hat schon einiges erreicht:
Seine Schule ist eine kostenlose Grundschule, die die Kinder auf nationale Prüfungen vorbereitet, die genau den gleichen Inhalt haben, wie die Prüfungen der kostenpflichtigen Schulen der Regierung. Damit haben sie die gleichen Möglichkeiten, auf eine weiterführende Schule aufgenommen zu werden, wie alle anderen Schüler. Bereits 3 Schüler haben die Aufnahme an einer weiterführenden Schule geschafft.Zudem gibt es ein warmes Mittagessen für jedes Kind, welche oft die einzige für manche Kinder ist. Die Kinder gehen unheimlich gerne zur Schule, haben eine Motivation zu lernen, die wir garnicht gewöhnt sind und lieben ihre Lehrer sehr. Wir haben oft beobachtet, dass Christopher wie ein Vater für die Kinder ist.

"Mumo Education and Orphanage Centre" is the name of a small school in the Mathare-Slum in Nairobi, Kenya. Christopher Ngombalu, the principal of the school got the name "Mumo" from his grandfather. Mumo in english means grace. Christopher´s grandfather wanted him to bring grace to all the people that is why Christopher named his school after him. He campaigns with big engagement for his school and especially for his pupils. He already achieved a lot: His school is free of charge and prepares the pupils for national examinations. That means they will have almost the same chances to achieve the admission at a secondary school as other children in Kenya. Already 3 Pupils of his school reached the secondary school. In addtiion the pupils get a warm lunch at school which is sometimes the only food they get. The children appreciate to go to school in a way that we have never seen before. They are so thankful and they love their teachers especially Christopher like a father.

Das Projekt "Mumo means grace" / The project "Mumo means grace"
Mumo heißt Gnade! Wir möchten Gnade zu diesen Kindern bringen und ihr könnt ein Teil davon werden! Bildung ist ein zentrales Problem in Kenia. Besonders in den Slums gehen die Kinder oft nicht zur Schule und kommen deshalb nie aus diesen heraus. Die staatliche weiterführende Schule ist der einzige Weg zur Universität und damit zu einem gehobeneren Beruf. Doch der Weg bis zur weiterführenden Schule ist den meisten Kindern schon verwährt, die ihre Eltern kein Geld haben, sie zur Schule zu schicken. Wer im Slum nicht zur Schule geht, kommt meistens nie aus dem Slum heraus. Im Mumo Education and Orphanage Centre wird den Kindern aber viel mehr geboten, als nur die nötige Bildung zur weiterführenden Schule. Sie werden liebevoll empfangen und behandelt und erhalten ein warmes Mittagessen.
Es gibt nur ein Problem: Die 57 Schüler, die zu 8 verschiedenen Klassen gehören, werden gleichzeitig in einem Raum unterrichtet. Der Lärmpegel, der dadurch entsteht macht es den Kindern sehr schwer sich zu konzentrieren, manche Klassen erhalten zeitweise keinen Unterricht. Die einzige Möglichkeit, die Qualität des Unterrichts zu steigern ist, die Schüler zu separieren und ihnen das lernen in eigenen Klassenräumen zu ermöglichen.
Und genau da möchten wir helfen! Es wurde bereits ein neues Gebäude gekauft, was jedoch baufällig und nicht geeignet für eine Schule ist. Gemeinsam mit Christopher haben wir ein neues Schulgebäude entworfen und alle anfallenden Kosten berechnet. Das alte Gebäude soll abgerissen und ein neues mit 2 Stockwerken errichtet werden. Wir haben auch schon einen Bauleiter und 10 Arbeiter gefunden, die mit uns alles vermessen und berechnet haben. Jetzt seid ihr gefragt: Die Kosten für das gesamte Projekt betragen ca. 5800€ (da sich die Materialpreise täglich ändern, kann man es nicht auf den Euro genau berechnen). Wir apellieren also an alle, die dieses Projekt unterstützen möchten, so viel zu geben, wie sie können und möchten.
Wenn wir es schaffen, das Geld in den nächsten 2 Wochen zusammen zu bekommen, können wir sogar noch die Fertigstellung des Gebäudes live miterleben. Mumo is the swahili word for grace. We want to bring grace the the kids of the Mumo-school in Mathare. Education is a major problem in Kenya. Especially in the slums kids don´t have the possibility to go to school and therefore they can´t get out of the slum later in their life´s. The secondary schools are the only way to university and a good job. Most of the children never reach secondary school because their parents don´t have the money to bring their children to primary school but who doesn´t go to school in the slum will probably never get out of it. Education is the key! Mumo Edauction and Orphanage Centre is a solution for these problems: it is free of charge, the children receive love and respect by their teachers and they get a warm lunch.
There is only one problem: 57 pupils, who belong to 10 different classes are teached at the same time in one classroom. The pupils are of age 4 to 15 and the noise level makes it hard for the pupils to concentrate themselves. The limited space is a big challenge. To separate the classes would increase the quality of the lessons.
And that is exactly what the project is about: A new building was already bought, but it is run down and not suitable for a school building because it is very dark and there are not enough rooms. We composed a new building with Christopher, the principal and founder of Mumo Education and Orphanage Centre. In addition we had a meeting with a foreman who calculated and measured together with us the costs of removing the old building and build the new one.
Now it´s your turn! The whole project will be about 5800€ (This price is not precise because the costs of the material are changing every day). We appeal now to all of you who want to support this project to give as much as you can. If we get the money in the next 2 weeks we will be able to experience the completion of the building. Das geplante Schulgebäude / The intended school building
Das Grundstück auf dem gebaut werden soll, umfasst ca. 60m2 Grundfläche. Damit wir genügend Räume haben können, soll das neue Gebäude 2 Stockwerke haben. Es wird sowohl unten als auch oben 4 Räume geben. Zudem werden Trennwände gekauft, die nach Bedarf aufgestellt werden können, da in manchen Klassen nur 3 Schüler sind. So können die Räume beliebig genutzt werden. (Es ist zum Beispiel auch ein Büro vorgesehen, das aber keinen ganzen Raum benötigt). Die rechteckige Fläche wird in der Mitte durch einen Flur getrennt sein, der zu einer Seite den Haupteingang haben wird. In dem Flur wird es eine Treppe geben, die in den 2. Stock führt. Die 2. Etage wird eine etwas größere Fläche haben, da es einen schmalen Balkon geben wird, auf dem die Köchin das Mittagessen zubereiten kann.
Die Fläche auf der gebaut wird, muss noch geebnet werden, dafür benötigen wir Kiesschotter und Sand. Die Grundstruktur bilden Stahlträger, die im Boden durch Beton gefestigt sind. So wird die Standhaftigkeit gewährleistet. Die Böden werden aus Bauholz mit einer Zementschicht gemacht. Die Wände sowie das Dach werden aus Wellblech sein, die von innen durch Bauholz verstärkt und durch Nägel aneinander befestigt sind. Die jeweils oberen Enden der Wellblechwände werden durch Maschendrahtzaun ersetzt, damit sowohl Licht als auch frische Luft in die Klassenzimmer gelangen kann. Aus Sicherheitsgründen wird es nur einen Haupteingang geben und ein Fenster pro Klassenraum, die sich nicht auf der Seite des Gebäudes befinden, die zum Weg zeigt.

English Translation:
The plot on which we are planning to build the school has a ground area of 60m2 . To have enough space for all classrooms the building will have 2 storeys (floors). There will be 4 rooms on the ground floor and 4 rooms on the second floor. We intend to buy wall passes which can be used as needed because in some classes are just 3 pupils so they don´t need a whole room. Thereby rooms can be used optionally. The rectangular will be divided through one corridor in the middle which has the gate on one side. In the corridor there are stairs which enable the way to the second ground. The second ground has an area which is a bit bigger than he the ground floor because there will be a small balcony for the cook to prepare the lunch.
The ground has to be flattened after removing the old building therefore we need sand and ballast. The structure will be made of steel beams which are fixed by cement (concrete) in the soil. This provides the constancy of the building. The floors will be made of timber and cement. The walls and the roof are made of iron sheets which are tightened by timber and connected with nails. The upper part of the iron sheet walls will be replaced by wire mash so that there is light and fresh air in the classrooms. For reasons of safety there will be just one main entrance for the whole building and one window in every classroom.
